Prasanna Dayan Fernando, MD, MHA

Dr. Fernando was born in Sri Lanka and came to the United States at the age of five. Prior to moving to Oklahoma in 2004, he lived in major metropolitan areas including Atlanta, Boston, New Orleans, and Philadelphia. While in medical school, he received his inspiration to pursue a career in women’s health from Drs. James Smeltzer and Kevin Windom at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He subsequently received his clinical training in obstetrics and gynecology in New York City under the guidance of Drs. Angela Kerr and Michael Cabbad at the Brooklyn Hospital Center. His clinical interests include the management of pelvic pain, minimally-invasive and robotic surgery, and high-risk obstetrical care. He is also trained in hospital management and believes that the future of American health care will employ best practices that are data-driven. His administrative interests are in risk management, technical operations, and process improvement.

Dr. Fernando’s practice model is one that empowers patients with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their health. He believes in staying current with the latest medical literature and is a strong proponent of evidence-based medicine in guiding best clinical practices. Dr. Fernando is happy to be a part of SMC and recognizes the importance of women’s health in shaping the overall health of Stillwater, Oklahoma. He is accepting new patients and looks forward to treating every patient with compassionate and quality care.

Dr. Fernando and his wife Sharon have made a home in Stillwater and are excited to be living near his parents, Drs. Chitru and Delini Fernando, his brother in law and sister, Drs. Brandon and Namali Pierson, his niece Caroline, and nephew Alex.
