Tom Karns was born and raised in Enid, Oklahoma. He attended Oklahoma State University graduating with a B.S. in physiology in 1974. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1980, graduating in the top 10% of his class. He completed a 4 year residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Oklahoma- Tulsa in 1984 and practiced there until December 1985. He then joined Stillwater Women’s Clinic and has had an active, general practice in OB/GYN, delivering over 5500 babies. He now specializes in gynecology only.
He has been board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1986. He is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a member of the Payne County Medical Society and the Oklahoma State Medical Association, and has served as Chief of Staff at Stillwater Medical Center. His interests include minimally invasive gynecological surgery, including robotics, infertility, and menopausal issues.
Outside the office, he is an elder at Grace Presbyterian Church [PCA] where he teaches an adult Bible study, and has served the last 20 years on the state board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He has volunteered at the Stillwater Community Health Center monthly for the last 15 years. He enjoys golfing, boating, and OSU sports. He is married to his best friend, the former Marcia Blevins, a 1975 OSU graduate who was integral in the opening of the Wondertorium and now serves on the boards of M-Power and the Stillwater Community Health Center. They have raised two children in Stillwater: Elizabeth and Bryan, both of whom have master’s degrees from Oklahoma State University. Elizabeth, who is the mother of two beautiful little girls: Maggie and Greta, is a homemaker, Disney travel agent, and part-time cake maker, and is married to Tim Nokes, who is also a Stillwater High and OSU graduate, and is an intensive care doctor at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Bryan is married to the former Ashlie Rowan, who also has a master’s degree from OSU and they are presently living in Washington, DC, where he is employed by the Professional Golfer’s Association as a tournament director.
